Hello,
I'm Keiza ("kay-zuh") and this is my second educational blog. I have a personal one too but it's not really up and running yet. I'm a wife and a mother of 3. I'm getting my Elementary Education certification, preferring to teach anywhere from 1st to 3rd grade.
I am so glad that we have Dr. Steffes as our instructor. I usually learn a lot from her and I know she has high and realistic expectations. I still have a lot, lot, lot to learn though and I still have about 11 more classes before student teaching. I am also glad that all the assignments for the blog posts are already set up so we don't have to guess, and that the syllabus and content in D2L is so detailed.
I like the idea of the scope and sequence (not saying it will necessarily be easy to construct) because it puts everything together and gives the big picture ideas. Beginning with this, to me, is like creating an outline for a big essay so that you can stay on track. Very useful.

It is nice to meet you! From your 2 Truths and a Lie, it sounds like you have traveled a lot. This is my first educational blog and I like the informal style. I am excited about having Dr. Steffes as our instructor as well. She was my daughter's school principal for a few years when she was in elementary. I had many conversations with her about my daughter. I was sorry that she left our school. I used a unit plan template to form my ideas for the lesson plan. Since we aren't using that, I think the scope and sequence takes its place. I haven't counted how many classes I have left before student teaching. I know that if everything stays on course, it should be in January of next year and hopefully I will have all my credits completed so that I can graduate next May. I have 30 credits left, so that makes roughly 10 classes however, Educ 298 is only one credit. I still need to take that class. I should have taken it last semester but I couldn't afford to do 45 hours of observation, plus all the paperwork!
ReplyDeleteHi Keiza, I like the idea of the scope and sequence too. With so much to get through during the school year, it gives you a road map to stay on track. It will be interesting putting it together for LA.. there are so many aspects to language arts... I did one for science, that was pretty straight forward where this one will be much more involved!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to having another class with you Keiza. Best of luck to you on this journey toward certification!
ReplyDeleteHey Keiza, nice to have another class together! I agree that the scope and sequence is a great way to get the big picture. I had not heard of a scope and sequence until recently. Like Parker, I completed one for teaching of science but it was much less detailed. This seems like a great way to start the unit and really get out creative juices flowing!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Delighted to have you back as a student, Keiza!
